How We Began

Bold-star started with a simple observation: visitors to Vancouver often photograph the same handful of locations because they do not know where else to look. Meanwhile, local photographers had discovered dozens of hidden viewpoints, secret trails, and perfectly timed moments that remained unknown to outsiders.

In 2018, we began sharing these discoveries. What started as informal photo walks with friends became structured photography routes designed to reveal Vancouver's photographic potential to anyone willing to explore.

Our Philosophy

We believe photography is both technical skill and personal expression. The camera settings matter, but so does the way you see the world. Our tours address both dimensions.

There is no single correct way to photograph a scene. When we stand together at a viewpoint, each participant finds their own composition. We offer suggestions and techniques, but never dictate what you should capture. Your photographs should reflect your vision, informed by our local knowledge.

Local Knowledge Matters

Every guide at Bold-star has photographed British Columbia for at least five years. We have stood in these locations across all seasons, learning when the light transforms ordinary scenes into extraordinary images.

This knowledge cannot be replicated through online research. It comes from countless hours of exploration, failed attempts, and triumphant discoveries. When you join our tours, you benefit from years of accumulated insight compressed into a single experience.

Our Commitment

Small group sizes are not a marketing phrase for us. They are fundamental to the experience we provide. With fewer participants, we can adapt to individual needs, answer questions thoroughly, and ensure everyone has time at prime shooting positions.

We also commit to ongoing learning. Photography evolves, and so do our tours. We regularly update routes based on new discoveries, seasonal changes, and feedback from participants.
